FENSA Registration.
Registration Number 37277
Cheshire View Home Improvements started trading in August 2017, and the two co-directors Rob and Mike decided that from the start they were going to do things properly and set off on a quest for FENSA registration. FENSA is a government authorised Competent Person Scheme for the replacement of windows, doors, roof windows and roof lights in England and Wales. All members have undergone a stringent vetting process to enable them to self-certify compliance with the relevant Building Regulation.
The first step along that path to registration was to have Rob certified for a FENSA card, to demonstrate that he has what it takes to be a competent installer and surveyor. Rob has been installing windows for the last 15 years, along with some time spent manufacturing them as well, so Rob certainly knows what he is doing. This was never going to be a difficult process, and indeed from Rob’s point of view it wasn’t, however from the perspective of organising a number of tests and inspections, while running a young business was a different story.
One of the first hurdles to overcome was getting the Insurance Backed Guarantee in place, which all FENSA registered companies need to have. This proved quite laborious, being a young company the under writers were nervous of insuring them, but having demonstrated the financial backing the business had, this was eventually overcome.
Finally there was the on-site inspection, which also involved showing that the company’s paper work and systems were compliant and fit for purpose. Each FENSA member has to follow a strict procedure when surveying and quoting on a project. After following the three-month process Mike and Rob are very pleased to be able to say that Cheshire View Home Improvements is a FENSA registered company
They celebrated their successful registration with a well-earned beer or two, but no more as they have quite a few early starts over the coming months as the order book is filling up quickly.
